Applications and Selection Guide

Use the product-specific values below as a shortlist, then validate the complete circuit design. Product ratings do not replace a fault-current study, conductor calculation, coordination review or applicable installation rules.

Selection point PXB6-63 option What the project must confirm
Rated current 6A–63A Coordinate with design current, conductor ampacity, ambient temperature and grouping
Trip curve B / C / D Choose for load inrush and required fault-clearing performance, not by current alone
Breaking capacity 6kA Icu = Ics Confirm against the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point
Pole arrangement 1P / 2P / 3P / 4P Match supply system and local switching or isolation rules
Installation interface 45mm terminal-centre reference Check enclosure, rail/base, terminal and conductor compatibility

Breaking Capacity

6kA Icu = Ics is the published product value. Confirm the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point.

PXB6-63 Product FAQ

What does the 6kA rating on the PXB6-63 MCB mean?

It is the published short-circuit breaking capacity, stated as 6kA Icu = Ics for the relevant product data. It does not describe normal circuit loading.

What is the difference between a 6A MCB and a 6kA MCB rating?

6A is a rated-current value for normal load and conductor protection; 6kA is 6,000A of short-circuit interrupting capacity under stated conditions. They describe different functions.

How many amperes is 6kA?

6kA equals 6,000A. This is a fault-current value, while PXB6-63 continuous rated-current options are published separately as 6A–63A.

What is the main difference between 6kA and 10kA breakers?

The main difference is the stated short-circuit breaking capacity. Select the required level from the prospective fault current, product standard and coordination study.

Would a higher kA breaker always be better than PXB6-63?

Not by itself. A higher verified duty may be required for a higher fault level, but curve, rated current, poles, voltage, standard, dimensions and coordination must also match.

Does kA determine the maximum normal load of a breaker?

No. kA relates to short-circuit interruption. Normal load is governed by the ampere rating, conductor design, installation conditions and applicable rules.

How does the PXB6-63 miniature circuit breaker work?

PXB6-63 automatically opens the circuit when an overload or short circuit triggers its protective mechanism. Its thermal response allows a time delay for overloads, while its magnetic response operates at higher fault currents according to the selected B, C or D curve. Use the published time-current characteristics to check the required disconnection time for your circuit.

How do I choose the rated current for a PXB6-63 MCB?

PXB6-63 is available in 6, 10, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63 A ratings. Choose a rating that suits the design load and protects the cable within its calculated current-carrying capacity. Account for installation method, ambient temperature, grouping, load inrush and local electrical rules. The 63 A frame designation does not mean every circuit should use a 63 A breaker.

What do B, C and D tripping curves mean for PXB6-63?

The curves distinguish the magnetic tripping bands: B is 3–5 times rated current, C is 5–10 times and D is 10–20 times. These are current multiples, not operating-time values. PXB6-63 offers all three curves. Select a curve that accommodates the actual load inrush while meeting fault-disconnection requirements; do not move to C or D simply to stop unexplained tripping.

How do I choose between 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P PXB6-63 breakers?

PXB6-63 is available in 1P, 2P, 3P and 4P configurations. Choose according to the supply arrangement and which conductors must be switched and protected together. A single-phase circuit may require one-pole or two-pole switching, while three-phase circuits may require three-pole or four-pole switching. Confirm neutral treatment, the product connection diagram and local installation rules rather than selecting by pole count alone.

Can an RCCB replace the PXB6-63 MCB?

An RCCB does not replace PXB6-63 overload and short-circuit protection. An RCCB detects residual current, whereas PXB6-63 is an MCB and does not provide residual-current protection. Where both functions are required, the circuit needs a suitably coordinated MCB and RCCB, or an appropriate RCBO combining the two functions. Select residual-current type and sensitivity according to the application and local rules.
